Microsoft Office 365 apps (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams) are pre-installed on all FH devices. Furthermore, as a student or employee at FH JOANNEUM you can use Microsoft Office online at https://portal.office.com/ or install the apps on your own devices.

Install Microsoft Office

Visit https://portal.office.com/ and sign in with your FH e-mail address. Afterwards you will be greeted by the office portal. On the upper right corner you will find the button “Install Office”:

If you want to install Office in your currently used language, choose the option Office 365 apps. Instructions for starting the setup will appear. Follow the instructions and start the setup from your browser or open the file OfficeSetup in your download folder. Perform the installation according to the setup instructions.

The first time you start an Office 365 app, you must sign in with an appropriate Microsoft account. If you installed Office using the instructions above, your FH account will already be suggested:

Confirm with Continue and sign in. Afterwards you will be asked if you want to “Allow my organization to manage my device”. Uncheck this when using your own device and confirm with OK.

Accept the license agreement and select your desired Office formats. Thereby the preparations for using Office 365 are finished and the apps are ready for use. You can check your sign-in with your FH account on the righthand side of the window bar. You can choose to sign out and sign in with a different account if necessary.

How many devices can I install Microsoft Office on?

You can install Office on up to five PCs or Mac, five tablets and five phones.

How long can I use Microsoft Office?

The availability and use of Office / Microsoft 365 is user-related and bound to your FH account. You can therefore use Microsoft Office as long as you pursue your studies or continue employment at FH JOANNEUM. For detailed terms and informations, please refer to the applicable IT regulation. Upon termination of your studies or employment, you no longer have permission to use the Office apps and you are obliged to uninstall these applications on your private devices or to purchase licenses for further use from Microsoft.

Additional info for alumni

The previously mentioned terms also apply to alumni: once you have graduated and completed your studies, your FH account will be deactivated and you will no longer be able to use the Office apps with this account. An exception is student e-mail: your FH e-mail address and your access to it via https://outlook.office.com/ remain valid for life.
